Product description
The giant onion (Allium giganteum) is a perennial herbaceous plant with a very impressive height of 80 to 150 cm. It is a very decorative ornamental type with stately white umbels of up to 20 cm diameter. It originates from the Middle East and Central Asia.

As an ornamental plant, it is used in parks and gardens and forms a wonderful ensemble in flower beds and borders when in a group with other plants. It can also be used as a cut flower in a vase as a stylish living ambience enhancer and is a very special highlight on the balcony or terrace in a bucket or plant pot form. The giant onion require a nutritious, but water-permeable, well-drained soil. It prefers a sunny, dry to slightly damp location, tolerates water logging, however only poorly.
In Central Europe the giant onion is cold hardy. Propagation takes place by onion division or by seed.

Sowing:
The seeds are generally cold germinators and must be stratified (cold treated). To do so, the seeds are placed in small pots with previously moistened sowing soil, lightly pressed and covered only once with soil. Then store them in the refrigerator for ca. 3 to 4 weeks. (Never in the freezer!). During this time, the soil must not dry out and must be kept moist constantly (no water logging). Also ensure regular ventilation to avoid mold formation. After stratification, place the pot in a bright and cool (approx. 15°C) location. Germination of the seeds is very irregular and extends for several weeks to months.

Please note:
This is a natural product. Therefore, we do not guarantee a sprout or germ for seeds since the conditions under which sowing by the customer is made can not be assessed or influenced by us.
